You were a walk in the park
you were a shot in the dark
you were a day spent asleep
(all in all it doesn't matter)
you were a holdin my hand
you were a song in a band
you were a moon without wax
(all in all it doesn't matter)
now
you were a drunk driveway
you were a starlit skyline
you were a burnt out breezway
(all in all it doesn't matter)
you were a pipe in the door
you were a desk on the floor
you were a fallin apart
all in all why does it matter
now
a four song demo recorded on Delaware Ave in Albany, NY. This is the first release for Hand Habits. In it's entirety, the demos were all recorded in the course of a week. When you listen to these songs, it helps to picture yourself underwater. Or in an underwater cave. At midnight.
"Meg Duffy has been a fixture, as a guitarist, in the Hudson Valley indie scene and with Hand Habits forms the core of a very tidy, talented, and evolving four-piece band. Small Shifts... might at first seem somewhat daunting - it consists of one 6-minute long song and one 9-minutes long. You might think a major commitment is required to appreciate Hand Habits, but you will be surprised. Duffy’s reverb-drenched voice, acoustic guitar, and electric noise hanging out in the shadows, are a transportive device. You can sit and listen hard for the subtle electronics and try to untangle the lyrics, or you can put it on and drift through the day, just like Duffy’s wandering voice."

All sounds, clicks, beeps, voices, and mouth noises captured and collected by the wonderful Emily Sprague. All words and melodies and rhythms derived and put together by M. Duffy. Some harmonies you hear are coming from the vocal chords of Emily Sprague. Thanks to Eric Margan for letting us blip and yell and beep and woosh in your home.
This is potentially the greatest dreampop record of the 2010s. Combining bold, memorable melodies, varied and textured music, and emotionally breathtaking lyrics, Psychopomp will be remembered for many decades to come and has an unforgettable place in the heart of anybody who knows it. Devin Passage
